There’s a new Conservation Ambassador Training opportunity!
Module 7: Stewarding for Preventing and Managing Invasive Plants.
This new workshop, presented by Laurie Frankcom (Central Kootenay Invasive Species Society) and Brittany Eliadis (East Kootenay Invasive Species Council), will focus on the practical side of land stewardship by sharing tips on how to open up a conversation and talk to landowners about invasive plants, what tools and incentives available for private landowners to identify and manage invasive plants on their properties, how invasive plants are prioritized for treatment in the region, and the wealth of resources to draw upon from invasive species organizations in the Kootenays. The presenters will also share practical things landowners should know about preventing the introduction and spread of invasive plants on their properties and what to do if they find them. Presentations will be followed by a Q&A and short group discussions to discuss applications of the information shared.
Their Conservation Ambassador Training, based on the Stewardship Solutions Toolkit, is an ongoing series of online interactive workshops designed to increase field-based knowledge for stewardship practitioners in the Kootenays. With a focus on the practical side of land and water stewardship, these workshops take a deeper look at stewardship solutions in the Kootenays. Guided by experts, they share leading-science, best management practices, and innovative techniques that will help fellow practitioners in the field.
