Nesting Box Installation!

Nesting Box Installation!

Help enhance wildlife habitat around Kootenay Lake by installing nesting boxes for local waterfowl and cavity-nesting birds. From May 21–23, volunteers will help place nesting boxes at properties throughout the region, supporting future breeding habitat and contributing to long-term stewardship efforts in our communities.

Volunteers can expect to spend approximately 2 hours picking up supplies, travelling to an assigned location, installing the box, and returning equipment. Installations must be completed in groups of two or more volunteers, so feel free to invite a friend or family member to join you. No prior experience is needed, and tools can be provided if required.

Although we missed the nesting window for wood ducks this season, these boxes will provide valuable habitat opportunities for next spring. To help keep the boxes in good condition over the winter, entrances will remain temporarily covered until February 2027 to deter wasps and squirrels from moving in early.
