Terms of Employment:
- Contract position, September 1 – December 1, 2025
- 15–20 hours per week
- Possibility of extension pending funding
Compensation: $25/hour
Location: Nelson, BC (consideration will be given to other Kootenay Lake residents)
Reports to: Board of Directors (or designate)
About Friends of Kootenay Lake
FoKLSS is a volunteer-based non-profit dedicated to protecting, restoring, and celebrating the ecological health and stewardship of Kootenay Lake. We bring together citizens, scientists, and communities to foster collaboration and inspire action for the lake’s long-term well-being.
Position Overview
The Stewardship Coordinator will support FoKLSS in delivering its core annual activities and strengthening its community presence. This short-term role focuses on coordinating the Annual Kootenay Lake Summit, leading a membership drive, organizing 2–3 community work parties, and contributing to grant writing efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with the Board of Directors and volunteers to ensure FoKLSS remains a strong, visible, and sustainable organization.
Key Responsibilities
Event Coordination
- Plan and coordinate the Annual Kootenay Lake Summit, including venue logistics, speaker coordination, promotions, registration, and follow-up engagement.
- Organize 2–3 community work parties (e.g., shoreline cleanups, habitat restoration), including volunteer recruitment, communications, and on-site coordination.
Membership & Community Engagement
- Lead the fall membership drive, including outreach to past members, promotional materials, and database updates.
- Support volunteer engagement through communications, relationship-building, and follow-up.
Fundraising & Grant Writing
- Assist with grant applications, sponsorship requests, and reporting as directed by the Board.
- Contribute to fundraising strategies tied to events and membership initiatives.
Communications & Administration
- Prepare outreach materials such as event promotions, e-news updates, and social media content.
- Maintain accurate records for membership, volunteer participation, and event outcomes.
- Provide regular updates to the Board of Directors.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience in event planning, community engagement, or non-profit coordination.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with volunteers.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and social media platforms.
Preferred:
- Experience in grant writing or fundraising.
- Knowledge of Kootenay Lake communities and stewardship issues.
- Previous non-profit or environmental sector experience.
Additional Information
- Must have access to a home office, computer, and reliable internet.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
- Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle are assets.
