Winter Staffing Update

Winter Staffing Update

As The Seasons Shift, so Too Does Our Team

This winter, we take a moment to reflect with gratitude as we say farewell to Grace, whose passion and dedication have left a lasting mark on Friends of Kootenay Lake, while also warmly welcoming back Raine for the winter term. These transitions reflect the evolving nature of our work and the people who make it possible—each contributing their skills, care, and commitment to the shared stewardship of Kootenay Lake and its surrounding communities.

Although I’m stepping out of my role, I’m not going far. I’ll still be around the Kootenays and look forward to staying involved as a volunteer and familiar face at future stewardship activities. I’m also excited to share that I’ve started a new position with Living Lakes Canada, where I will continue supporting sustainable lake and water stewardship across the country.

What I’ll remember most are the people: the lake lovers, volunteers, partners, community members, and generous donors who shared their time, passion, and support. Thank you to everyone near and far. Your encouragement and contributions have been essential, and we truly couldn’t do this work without you. I’m so grateful for the warm welcome and for the chance to be part of this community. It has made a lasting impression on me.

Raine Freeman

Greetings everyone! After taking a step back this fall to enjoy the changing of the seasons I’m excited to be returning to Friends of Kootenay Lake for the winter. Working with our amazing team at FoKLSs, and community members like yourself to host a successful Summit has meant so much to me. I am eager to continue connecting through our workshops, and social events this winter.

This field season I spent time in the Harrop wetlands, attending market scenes, and traveling to communities along the Kootenay Lake to empower stewardship – through education, recreation, and hands-on beach clean-ups. I will now mostly be indoors reporting on these activities to our funders, and working on securing grants for the work we’d like to do next season!

Keep your eyes out for our winter programs, such as wetland themed film showings, birdhouse building workshops, and training for environmental monitoring!
