Announcing the winner of the 2019 Trash to Art Competition!

Congratulations to Vicky Issott who is the winner of the 2019 Trash to Art Compeitition, and will be awarded the $200 cash prize!

On April 27th 2019, Vicky and a group of volunteers joined us at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park for our first beach clean-up of the year. She turned the trash she found on the beach into this brilliant salmon, creating scales out of a beer can and eyes out of old ear plugs.

This salmon tagged along to all our outreach events this summer and was admired by folks all around the lake. It allowed us to start a conversation about the problems surrounding plastic pollution on the shoreline of Kootenay Lake, and how this is impacting our lake ecosystem.

Thank you Vicky for creating this conservation piece and for sharing your talents with us.

Stay tuned for the next community shoreline clean-up happening on the lake this fall!
