Summer and Fall Cleanup Projects are Kicking Off

Back in the spring, FoKLSS hosted several cleanup events, including the east shore cleanup throughout the entire month of April. Now, as Kootenay Lake’s busy season is in full swing, we’re beginning to plan our cleanups for summer and fall. Here are our first cleanups of the summer.

Prestige Marina Cleanup, Nelson BC

On July 31st from 9am to 1pm, FoKLSS will be doing a lakebed cleanup at the Prestige Marina in partnership with the Kootenay Lake Sailing Association and the West Kootenay Boating Association.

Divers will be retrieving trash from the lakebed beneath the docks, filling mesh bags with small items, and hooking large items to be hauled up by volunteers on the docks. We will then properly dispose of and recycle the retrieved items.

FoKLSS is looking for twelve volunteers to help haul, sort and dispose of collected trash. If there is enough interest from volunteers, we will also conduct a cleanup of the shoreline between the Prestige and Lakeside Park.

This is a great and fun opportunity to meet awesome people and contribute to the cleanup of the beautiful Kootenay Lake. This is about as exciting as a cleanup gets, since it’s always a mystery what the divers will hook next!

Lakeside Dog Walk, Nelson BC

Join us for a cleanup along the Dog Walk in Nelson on the evening of August 12th from 6-8pm! We will meet at the Dog Park parking lot.

Help keep this beautiful area of Nelson clean for the sake of the water and creatures that live near the shoreline, and our furry friends that frequent the area with us.

Gloves and bags will be provided to all that attend. You can find all information about the event and confirm your attendance on the Facebook page here.

Please do not attend if you are ill, display any symptoms of COVID-19, have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days, have been in contact with anyone with COVID-19 or have been in contact with anyone who has travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days.
