Earth Day Cleanup at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park

April 22, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Looking for a way to give back this Earth Day? Join us for a cleanup at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park!

The dog beach, located at the north end of the park (next to the marina), is littered with polystyrene foam that has broken down from nearby docks containing unencapsulated foam. This has created a huge mess on the beach and can be detrimental to waterfowl and fish if consumed. It’s also important to clean this area now, while the lake levels are still low.

Let’s come together and give back to Kootenay Lake this Earth Day!

Nelson Nature Kids will also be setting up a table and running a kids activity during this event.

Before proceeding to registration, you are required to fill out a waiver and media release form. You cannot participate in this cleanup unless you have filled out a waiver. The media release form is optional:

Minor waiver form (under 18)

Adult waiver form

We will provide buckets and other cleanup equipment needed, but we recommend bringing the following:

  • Shovel (optional)
  • Rake (optional)
  • Bucket (there will be extra buckets)
  • Gardening/work gloves (there will be extra used gloves provided)
  • Comfortable and weather appropriate clothing
  • Trash pickers if you have a sore back
  • Gumboots for muddy areas
  • Food and water

Please park in the dog beach parking lot (enter the park through the main entrance off the right side of Hwy 3A, turn left, and stay left until you reach the parking lot near the dock).

Register here.
